Synopsis
For years the people of a small English coastal town have relied on their trusty local bank. Everyone knew one another and would chat over tea and biscuits as they lazily went about their affairs. All this is torn away as the branch is taken over by Ameribank, a vast, crass, conglomerate. Gone are the niceties as soulless efficiency and hard profit targets become the order of the day.
The regular local customers who for years have banked on favours are suddenly shut out in the cold. * * * Marlon, a young musician is desperate for a loan to cut that all-important demo.
Mrs. Spencer, an elderly widow, is trying to access her husband's account to pay for his funeral, as his body lies waiting on a slab in the mortuary.
Wang Li, suddenly hit with a charge for the counting and depositing of the change from his job selling roses in restaurants.
Sunita, an Internet bride, trying to draw out her jewelry from a safety deposit box but being told she needs the signature of her abusive husband.
As the bank causes frustration after frustration, the villager's come to realise that it's time to take things into their own hands.
